ENGINE DISASSEMBLE
1. Place engine on a work stand, then ensure coolant and oil have drained.
2. Remove timing belt as outlined in Timing Belt.
3. Remove water pump as outlined in Water Pump.
4. Remove oil pan as outlined in Oil Pan, Engine.
5. Remove oil pump as outlined in Oil Pump, Engine.
6. Remove rear oil seal retainer.
7. Remove intake manifold as outlined in Intake Manifold.
8. Remove cylinder heads as outlined in Cylinder Head Assembly.
9. Remove pistons with connecting rod.
10. Before removing bearing cap, measure crankshaft end play.
11. Loosen main bearing beam and crankshaft retaining bolts in two or three steps in sequence, Fig. 5, and remove.
ENGINE ASSEMBLY

1. Install main bearings, Fig. 6, crankshaft and bearing cap. Tighten bearing cap attaching bolts to specifications in sequence, Fig. 7 in two or three steps.

2. Install piston assemblies with rings properly positioned, Fig. 8.
3. Install connecting rod bearing caps. Tighten to 15 Nm (11 lbs ft) on first pass. Tighten to 62 Nm (45 lbs ft) or if you have an angle wrench, turn nut 60°-65° clockwise
4. Reverse remainder of Engine Disassemble procedure to complete assembly, noting following:

a. Tighten cylinder head attaching bolts to specifications using sequence shown in Fig. 4 and 7.

b. Tighten intake manifold attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 9 to specifications in two or three steps.
