OBD-II ECM CONNECTOR BOLT

APPLIED VEHICLES:
All 1995 vehicles equipped with OBD-II.

SERVICE INFORMATION

OBD-II equipped vehicles have a new style ECM connector which attaches with a new type of bolt. This bolt has a black plastic sleeve that retains an orange pin. The pin indicates that the connector is tight when it appears as an orange square between the two triangular indicators next to the bolt.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The correct tightening torque for the ECM connectors bolts is 30-50 Kg-cm (23-43 in-lb). If a bolt is broken while disconnecting the harness from the ECM, the bolt must be replaced. The bolt is attached to the connector shell by a sliding metal tab above the bolt. To remove the bolt gently pry the lab upward about 1/8" and pull the bolt out of the connector. The bolt is available as a service part. The portion of the bolt that remains in the ECM should be removed with a suitable tool.
