Improper Shifting to 3rd Gear Position
Description- This is one of the items indicated by the MIL.
- This malfunction will not be detected while the OD OFF indicator lamp is indicating another self-diagnosis malfunction.
- This malfunction is detected when the A/T does not shift into third gear position as instructed by the A/T control unit. This is not caused by electrical malfunction (circuits open or shorted) but by mechanical malfunction such as control valve sticking, improper solenoid valve operation, malfunctioning servo piston or brake band, etc.
Overall function check
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.
With Consult
1. Start engine and warm up ATF.
2. Select "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode for ECM with CONSULT.
3. Start vehicle with shift lever in D and throttle opening halfway. Check that vehicle runs through gear shift of D(1) -> D(2) -> D(3) -> D(4), in accordance with shift schedule. Service Data and Specifications (SDS)
OR
With Generic Scan Tools
1. Start engine and warm up ATF.
2. Start vehicle with shift lever in D and throttle opening halfway. Check that vehicle runs through gear shift of D(1) -> D(2) -> D(3) -> D(4), in accordance with shift schedule. Service Data and Specifications (SDS)
3. Select "MODE 3" with GST.
OR
Without Scan Tools
1. Start engine and warm up ATF.
2. Start vehicle with shift lever in D and throttle opening halfway. Check that vehicle runs through gear shift of D(1) -> D(2) -> D(3) -> D(4), in accordance with shift schedule. Service Data and Specifications (SDS)
3. Perform self-diagnosis for ECM. Description and Operation
