Inhibitor, Overdrive and Throttle Position Switch Circuit Checks
Parts description
- Inhibitor switch
Detects the selector lever position and sends a signal to the A/T control unit.
- Overdrive switch
Detects the overdrive control switch position (ON or OFF) and sends a signal to the A/T control unit.
- Throttle position switch
Consists of a wide-open throttle position switch and a closed throttle position switch.
The wide-open position switch sends a signal to the A/T control unit when the throttle valve is open at least 1/2 of the full throttle position. The closed throttle position switch sends a signal to the A/T control unit when the throttle valve is fully closed.

Overall function check
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.
With Consult
1. Start engine.
2. Select "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode for ECM with CONSULT.
3. Drive vehicle under the following conditions:
Shift lever in D, OD control switch in "OFF" position, vehicle speed higher than 10 KPH (6 MPH), throttle opening greater than 1/2 of the full throttle position and driving for more than 5 seconds.
OR
With Generic Scan Tools
1. Start engine.
2. Drive vehicle under the following conditions:
Shift lever in D, OD control switch in "OFF" position, vehicle speed higher than 10 KPH (6 MPH), throttle opening greater than 1/2 of the full throttle position and driving for more than 5 seconds.
3. Select "MODE 3" with GST.
OR
Without Scan Tools
1. Start engine.
2. Drive vehicle under the following conditions:
Shift lever in D, OD control switch in "OFF" position, vehicle speed higher than 10 KPH (6 MPH), throttle opening greater than 1/2 of the full throttle position and driving for more than 5 seconds.
3. Perform self-diagnosis for ECM.
