Maintenance Items

The air bag system should be inspected every 10 years from date of manufacture as noted on certification label located on driver's door jam.
1. Ensure air bag warning lamp lights for seven seconds when ignition is turned to On or Start. After approximately seven seconds, the warning lamp should go off.
2. Visually inspect Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) sensors as follows:
a. Inspect sensors to ensure arrow marks face toward front of vehicle.
b. Inspect body, sensors and brackets for dents, cracks, deformities and/or rust.
c. Inspect sensor harness for binds, connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.

3. Visually inspect Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control/diagnostic/sensor unit as follows:
a. Inspect case and bracket for dents, cracks or deformities.
b. Inspect connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.

4. Visually inspect Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) main harness as follows:
a. Inspect connectors for poor connections.
b. Inspect harness for binds, connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.

5. Visually inspect Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) spiral cable as follows:
a. Visually inspect lockpins and combination switch for damage.
b. Inspect connectors, flat cable and protective tape for damage.
c. Inspect steering wheel for noise, binds or difficult operation.

6. Visually inspect air bags and steering wheel as follows:
a. Remove air bag(s) as described under Air Bag.
b. Inspect harness cover and connectors for damage and terminals for deformities.
c. Install air bag module to inspect fit or alignment with steering wheel.
d. Inspect steering wheel for excessive freeplay.
e. Install passenger air bag to inspect fit or alignment with instrument panel.
