A/C SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TEST PROGRAM FOR THE SOUTHEAST REGION

APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
All Models

SERVICE INFORMATION

There are cases during the warranty period where Nissan technicians spend time on the diagnosis of A/C complaints and do not find a malfunctioning part (NTF) in the A/C system (performing to specification). Consequently, warranty policy does not allow submission of a claim since no repair was completed.

As part of a test program, that started April 1, 1995, dealers in the Southeast region may request reimbursement for 0.3 hrs of diagnostic time (one time per VIN only) under the conditions outlined below.

^ The "A/C System Diagnosis Only" claim can be submitted only if diagnosis of the customer complaint reveals that all A/C system components are functioning properly, and that the A/C system is performing to specification. Dealer diagnostic efforts must follow the sequence shown in the chart.

^ The special diagnostic operation can not be claimed in conjunction with other A/C labor operations. All flat rate times published in the Nissan "Warranty Flat Rate Manual" include a diagnostic time allowance in the applicable flat rate time.

^ The "A/C System Diagnosis Only" claim can only apply to diagnosis performed after retail delivery of the vehicle. It can not be used on in-stock vehicles.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

A/C SYSTEM OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE TESTS

A. System Operation Test

1. Confirm that the NC belt is not slipping and is properly tensioned.

2. Confirm that the fan operates on all four speeds.

3. Confirm that the compressor clutch engages when the A/C switch is turned on and one of the fan speeds is selected.

If there is a malfunction in any of the above components, please refer to the HA section of the service manual for proper repair procedure. Refer to the current Nissan "Warranty Flat Rate Manual" to determine applicable coding for claims submission.

If the above components are operating normally, conduct the "System Cooling Performance Test" below.

B. System Cooling Performance Test

For Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) systems, disconnect the "Ambient Sensor" harness connector and use a jumper wire across the terminals before conducting the performance test.

Conduct the standard performance test under the condition as shown.

Operate the system a minimum of 10 minutes then measure the discharge air temperature at the center vent. Use the table titled "Recirculating-to-discharge air temperature" in the HA section of the service manual to determine if the discharge air temperature at the center vent is to specification.

CLAIM INFORMATION

If the above tests determine that the system is not performing to specifications, the "A/C System Diagnosis Only" operation can not be claimed. Refer to the applicable service manual for diagnosis and repair procedures. Refer to the Nissan "Assurance Products Resource Manual" for claims policies and procedures, and to the current Nissan "Warranty Flat Rate Manual" for claims coding applicable to the repair(s) performed.

If the system is performing to specification, instruct the customer on proper usage of system controls, and submit a claim for "A/C System Diagnosis Only" using the following special claims coding. Please note that the "A/C System Diagnosis Only" operation may be used ONE TIME ONLY PER VIN:

NOTE:
Please reference Nissan Warranty Bulletin "WB/95-009", dated March 23, 1995, on the subject "A/C System Diagnostic Test Program for the Southeast Region" for complete claims submission details.
