VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN

A/T SHIFT LOCK BUTTON REPLACEMENT

This amended version of NTB97-064a adds information to clarify the button replacement based on the shift knob assembly design. See the REPAIR ADVISORY. Please discard NTB97-O64a.

INTRODUCTION

Some 1996 Sentra, 200SX and 1996-97 240SX vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions may experience a condition in which the A/T shift lock button breaks and falls out of place. In order to prevent unnecessary inconvenience to our customers, Nissan has initiated a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the A/T shift lock button, spring and lubricant in all affected vehicles.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

It is the dealer's responsibility to check each vehicle falling within the range of this campaign which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in dealer inventory. Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any affected new or used vehicles in their inventory prior to sale.
