Toe setting is measurement of wheels in relation to vehicle centerline, Fig. 1. Leading edge of each wheel should toe-in or toe-out slightly in relation to vehicle centerline to ensure proper vehicle tracking. Toe should be inspected using suitable alignment gauges, following manufacturer's instructions. When checking or adjusting toe, always ensure setting of left and right wheels is as equal as possible.

Toe is adjusted by loosening tie rod locknuts or adjusting sleeve bolts and equally altering length of tie rods. After toe has been adjusted to specifications, lengths of left and right tie rods, Figs. 2 and 3, should be nearly equal and close to length specified. Incorrect tie rod length will adversely affect steering angles and toe-out on turns.
