Engine: Service and Repair
WARNING:
- DO NOT REMOVE ENGINE UNTIL EXHAUST SYSTEM HAS COMPLETELY COOLED, OTHERWISE, YOU MAY BURN YOURSELF AND/OR A FIRE MAY BREAK OUT IN FUEL LINE.
- BEFORE DISCONNECTING FUEL HOSE, RELEASE FUEL PRESSURE.
- BEFORE REMOVING FRONT AXLE FROM TRANSAXLE, PLACE SAFETY STANDS UNDER DESIGNATED FRONT SUPPORTING POINTS.
- BE SURE TO HOIST ENGINE AND TRANSAXLE IN A SAFE MANNER.
NOTE:
- Position vehicle on a flat and solid surface.
- Place chocks at front and back of rear wheels.
- For engines not equipped with engine slingers, attach proper slingers and bolts described in the parts catalog.
- When lifting engine, be sure to clear surrounding parts.
- Use special care for accelerator wire casing, brake lines and brake master cylinder.
REPLACEMENT
1. Remove engine undercover and hood.
2. Drain coolant from drain plug on water pipe, and radiator.
3. Release the fuel pressure.
4. Remove the negative battery cable.
5. Remove vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, wires, harnesses and connectors.
6. Remove front exhaust tube and drive shafts.
7. Remove radiator and fans.
8. Remove drive belts.
9. Remove generator, A/C compressor and power steering oil pump from engine.
10. Set a suitable transmission jack under transaxle and hoist the engine with engine slinger.
11. Remove RH and LH engine mountings and center member.
12. Remove front and rear engine mountings.
13. Remove engine with transaxle as shown.
NOTE: Before separating engine and transaxle, remove crankshaft position sensor (OBD) from the assembly. Always be extra careful not to damage edge of crank-shaft position sensor (OBD), or ring gear teeth.
14. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
