Removal of Front Cover

1. Place vehicle on lift.

Before raising vehicle:

2. Disconnect battery ground cable at battery.
3. Remove VSS horn on vehicles so equipped.
4. Remove alternator belt.
5. Remove alternator support bracket bolts and reposition.
6. Remove engine coolant reservoir and reposition for clearance.
7. Remove power steering fluid reservoir tank and reposition for clearance.






8. Install engine support eye bracket at right rear of cylinder head.
9. Position the bracket away from the A/C low side charge valve stem to avoid contact with stem.
10. Install engine support beam with support hook engaging eye bracket. Position right side of beam on rigid part of shock tower to avoid denting sheet metal.
11. Remove upper right engine mount and bracket.
12. Remove (3) bolts securing timing cover to cylinder head and (2) upper timing cover bolts including upper idler pulley bracket.
13. Raise the vehicle.
14. Drain oil.
15. Remove right front wheel.
16. Remove right front plastic inner fender panel.
17. Remove right front plastic splash shield from under front fascia.
18. Remove A/C belt.






19. Remove A/C compressor and secure to frame at front.
20. Remove A/C idler pulley bracket assembly.
21. Remove exhaust pipe flange nuts and bracket.
22. Remove engine crossmember and mounts.






23. Remove lower rear engine mount support bracket bolts and reposition.
24. Remove steel oil pan.
25. Remove oil baffle plate.
26. Remove alum. oil pan - note (2) bolts located behind flywheel cover plate.
27. Remove oil pickup tube bracket bolt (93 & 94 models). Leave pickup assembly itself in place.
28. Remove crankshaft pulley using suitable puller - engine may need to be lowered to provide clearance.
29. Remove P/S pump bracket from block - upper bolt removed first - reposition for clearance.
30. Remove lower front timing cover bolts. Remove lower P/S idler pulley and (1) lower PCV bolt.
31. Position P/S pump for clearance when removing timing cover.






32. Remove upper timing cover bolts. Remove (2) upper oil separator assembly bolts.






33. Remove timing cover - engine may need to be lowered to provide clearance for chain tensioner housing of timing cover to clear frame. Position vehicle to allow access to engine cradle adjustment bolt. Engine height may have to be adjusted when removing cover.
