Gear Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

DESCRIPTION
When the gear position is "N", the neutral position switch is "ON".
ECM detects the park/neutral position when continuity with ground exists.




DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the park/neutral position switch circuit. During this check, a DTC might not be confirmed.

WITH CONSULT
1. Turn ignition switch "ON".




2. Perform "PARK/NEUT POSI SW CKT" in "FUNCTION TEST" mode with CONSULT.

OR

WITH CONSULT




2. Select "P/N POSI SW" in "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT.




3. Check the "P/N POSI 5W" signal under these conditions.

OR

WITH NO TOOLS
1. Turn ignition switch "ON".







2. Check voltage between ECM terminal (2) and body ground under these conditions.
