Disassembly and Reassembly
ENGINE DISASSEMBLY1. Place engine on a work stand, then ensure coolant and oil have drained.
2. Remove cylinder heads as outlined in Cylinder Head Assembly.
3. Remove oil pan as outlined in Oil Pan, Engine.
4. Remove timing chain as outlined in Timing Chain.
5. Remove pistons with connecting rod.
6. Remove rear oil seal retainer.
7. Before removing bearing cap, measure crankshaft end play.
8. Loosen main bearing beam and crankshaft retaining bolts in two or three steps in sequence, Fig. 7, and remove.
ENGINE ASSEMBLY
Fig. 9 Main Bearing Bolt Tightening Sequence:
1. Install main bearings, Fig. 8, crankshaft and bearing cap. Using sequence shown in Fig. 9, torque attaching bolts to 24-28 ft. lbs., in two or three steps.
Fig. 10 Piston Ring Positioning:
2. Install piston assemblies with rings properly positioned, Fig. 10.
3. Reverse remainder of Engine Disassemble procedure to complete assembly, noting following:
Fig. 4 Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence:
a. Tighten cylinder head attaching bolts to specifications using sequence shown in Fig. 4 .
Fig. 2 Intake Manifold Tightening Sequence:
b. Tighten intake manifold attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 2 to specifications in two or three steps.
