Transaxle Removal/ Installation
TRANSAXLE REPLACE1. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheels.
2. Remove wheel bearing locknut. Do not allow brake hose to stretch or twist.
3. Remove cotter pin and nut securing lower ball joint to knuckle.
4. Separate lower ball joint from knuckle.
5. Separate driveshaft from knuckle by tapping lightly (use a puller, if necessary). When removing driveshaft, cover boots to prevent damage.
6. Remove right driveshaft from transaxle.
7. Remove left driveshaft with a suitable puller tool. Use caution not to damage pinion mate shaft and side gear.
8. Remove bolts securing torque converter to driveplate by turning crankshaft.
9. When transaxle is disconnected, scribe matching marks on torque converter and driveplate to ease installation.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. When connecting torque converter to transaxle, measure distance as shown in Fig. 7. Correct distance on Maxima with VE30DE engine is greater than .55 inch.

b. Tighten transaxle securing bolts as shown in Figure 9.
c. Ensure fluid level is correct. Cycle selector lever through all positions and ensure correct operation.
