Rear Wheel Hub & Axle Housing

REMOVAL
1. Remove wheel bearing lock nut.

2. Separate drive shaft from axle housing by lightly tapping it. If it is hard to remove, use a puller.

CAUTION: Cover boots with shop towel so as not to damage them when removing drive shaft.

3. Remove brake caliper assembly and rotor. Brake hose need not be disconnected from brake caliper. In this case, suspend caliper assembly with wire so as not to stretch brake hose. Be careful not to depress brake pedal, or caliper piston will pop out. Make sure brake hose is not twisted.

4. Remove axle housing.

5. Remove wheel bearing with flange, and wheel hub from axle housing.

INSTALLATION
1. Install axle housing with wheel hub.

2. Before tightening lock nut, apply oil to threaded portion of rear spindle and both sides of plain washer. Tighten wheel bearing lock nut to 206 - 275 Nm (152 - 203 ft. lbs.).

3. Check wheel bearing axial end play. Axial end play: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) or less.
4. Make sure that wheel bearings operate smoothly.
