Tightening/Loosening Sequence:
Tightening/Loosening Sequence:
Refer to the illustration and tighten the cylinder head bolts using the following procedure:
a. Tighten all bolts to 29 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
b. Tighten all bolts another 79 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
c. Loosen all the bolts completely.
d. Tighten all bolts to 25 - 34 Nm (18 - 25 ft. lbs.).
e. Turn all bolts 86 to 91° clockwise. If an angle wrench is not available, tighten bolts to 75 - 84 Nm (55 - 62 ft. lbs.).
Install camshafts and camshaft brackets and tighten all bolts as shown to 2 Nm (17 inch lbs.). Then tighten all bolts to 9.0 - 11.8 Nm (79.9 - 104.2 inch lbs.).
Install crankshaft and main bearing caps and tighten bolts to 46 - 56 Nm (34 - 41 ft. lbs.).
Apply new engine oil to the bolt thread and seat surfaces.
Prior to tightening bearing cap bolts, shift crankshaft back and forth to properly seat the bearing cap.
NOTE: Apply new engine oil to the bolt threads and nut seating surfaces. Tighten connecting rod cap nuts to 14 - 16 Nm (10 - 12 ft. lbs.). Then turn the nuts another 60 to 65° clockwise with an angle wrench, or if an angle wrench is not available, tighten them an additional 38 - 44 Nm (28 - 33 ft. lbs.)
