Service Procedure
SERVICE PROCEDURE1. With the ignition off, the parking brake set and the shift lever in neutral, remove the screws that attach the shift knob to the shift lever.
2. Raise the knob straight up approximately 1/2 inch on the shift lever.
3. Pull the old shift release button straight out to remove. Remove the spring.
4. Inspect the shift knob for any dirt or debris inside. Clean as necessary.
5. Install the new spring into the knob.
6. Lubricate the new button and install it into the knob.
7. Hold the button in while pressing the knob assembly back down into its correct location.
8. Reinstall the screws to hold the knob in place.
9. Test for proper operation.

4. Inspect the shift knob for any dirt or debris inside. Clean as necessary.
5. Check the color of the hidden portion of the button.
A. If it is white, reassemble the shifter and the repair is completed.
B. If the button is black, proceed to step 6.
6. Install the new spring into the knob.
7. Lubricate the new button and install it into the knob.
8. Hold the button in while pressing the knob assembly back down into its correct location.
9. Reinstall the screws to hold the knob in place.
10. Test for proper operation.
