Erasing DTCs

HOW TO ERASE DTC
The diagnostic trouble code can be erased by the following methods.

With CONSULT
Selecting "ERASE" in the "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode.

With GST (Generic Scan Tool)
Selecting Mode 4.

Without Tools
Changing the diagnostic test mode from Diagnostic Test Mode II to Mode I by turning the mode selector tools; on the ECM.

NOTE: If the battery terminal is disconnected, the diagnostic trouble code will be lost within 24 hours.
When you erase the DTC, using CONSULT or GST is easier and quicker than switching the diagnostic test modes.

The following data is cleared when the ECM memory is erased.
1. Diagnostic trouble codes
2. 1st trip diagnostic trouble codes
3. Freeze frame data
4. 1st trip freeze frame data
5. System readiness test (SRT) codes
6. Test values
Actual work procedures are explained using a DTC as an example. Be careful so that not only the DTC, but all of the data listed above, is cleared from the ECM memory during work procedures.
