SERVICE INFORMATION
If the vehicle security system (VSS) remote controller for one of the applied vehicles is difficult to program, follow the procedure in this bulletin to resolve the incident. A new VSS was adopted beginning with VIN 1N4BU31D8VC250629 for the 1997 Altima and from the start of production for the 1998 Altima.
Incident vehicles do not have the rocker switch in the center console. The new system is now similar to the 1995 through 1997 Sentra/2OOSX keyless entry system.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Get in the vehicle. Close and lock all doors.
IMPORTANT:
Do not rush the cycle in step 2.
2. Insert and remove the ignition key more than six times within 10 seconds (at the rate of about once per second). This will erase any original ID codes from the remote controller. The hazard warning lights should flash twice.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position.
4. Press the door lock button on the remote controller one time (the hazard warning lights will flash twice again). This step enters the remote controller ID into the remote control unit.
5. If you need to program additional remote controllers (a maximum of four controllers may be programmed to the vehicle):
6. With the switch on the armrest, unlock the driver's side door.
7. Then lock the driver's side door again with the switch on the armrest.
8. Repeat step 4.
9. Open the driver's side door to complete the ID enter mode. This cancels the ID enter/programming mode.
