Install Service Part
Install Service Part1. Install service part by aligning it to the wheel house and rear pillar; clamp with vice grips. Apply even pressure (see Figure 18). Bonder will set-in 30-60 minutes.
NOTE:
1. Fasten enough clamps to insure that there are no gaps between the two panels.
2. Do not over tighten, this may prevent proper bonding.
3. If reposition is required, slide the panel (do not pull panel away).
2. Use a plastic scraper to wipe oft excess adhesive to verify proper fit (see Figure 19).
3. Check for movement or gaps after installation and add clamps where necessary.
4. Allow bonder to cure for 90 mm (minimum).
5. Remove all clamps.
NOTE: Bonder will remain tacky to the touch.
Clean-Up Adhesive
1. Use a blade to trim excess adhesive at the fender lip. Do not sand fender lip area (See Figure 20).
2. Grind all excess adhesive using 24 Grit Roloc (5" & 2") discs (See Figure 21) and blend panels smoothly.
NOTES: 1. Constantly move sander along repair areas to prevent heat build-up. 2. No adhesive should be exposed at the wheel arch.
3. Prepare surface for body filler.
Body Filler, Seam Sealer And Repaint Quarter Panel
1. Apply body filler to bonded surface. Sand surface smooth (See Figure 22).
2. Allow an additional 6 hours (minimum) before applying primer and paint. This will eliminate any shrinkage that may occur on the metal bonder.
3. Prime outside surface of the service part (wheel arch & fender lip).
4. Apply Fusor Factory Match Urethane Seam Sealer/adhesive (Lord stock # 800) to the fender lip of the wheel arch and to the joint between the rear fender wheel arch and the rocker sill Panel. Smooth out sealer for good seam coverage. There should be no exposed seams in these areas (see Figure 23).
5. Apply matching color coat and clear coat as required.
NOTE: It is extremely important to apply paint thoroughly in the fender lip and in all areas to prevent rust formation.
Anti-Corrosion Treatment
1. Through the inner wheel house hole, door striker hole and trunk service holes attach the spray nozzle and slowly spray 3M Rust Fighter I (# 051135-08892) along the entire wheel arch at the inside seam of the attached service part (see Figure 24).
NOTE: It is extremely important that you apply an adequate amount of 3M Rust Fighter to the inside seam of the repair area to insure proper corrosion protection.
2. Apply rubberized undercoat (3M # 051135T08883) to the area shown on Figure 25.
3. After the rubberized undercoating has dried (approx. 1 hour) apply Tectyl 517 bitumen wax to the same exterior area. Do not spray wax through the trunk as this will smell.
Reinstall parts
1. Install all removed parts.
2. Connect negative terminal to battery.
