SERVICE INFORMATION
The Year 2000, also known as the Millennium bug, or Y2K, is a computer issue which is the result of computers performing calculations using dates formatted in the form MM/DD/YY (e.g., 07/01/99) which uses only two digits to represent the year (i.e., 1999 shortens to 99). These short date formats were originally used to save space on early computers which had very limited memory capacity.
The Millennium bug occurs when a calculation is made using the 00 as a representation of 2000. In some computers, the year 00 may be interpreted as 1900 or some year other than 2000. This causes errors in calculations based on date. In addition, some computer systems may cease to operate correctly after the date change from 12/31/99 to 1/1/00.
Nissan dealers may receive inquiries regarding the Y2K compliance of certain tools and equipment in their service shop.
ASIST, CONSULT, and CONSULT-II do not use calendars or date comparisons for operating decisions. These tools are not affected by the calendar change and, therefore, will continue to operate correctly regardless of calendar date.
