The anchor point locations for the child restraint top strap are incorrectly specified in 1995 through 1998 240SX owner's manuals. The correct location of the anchor points is shown in Figure 1.

Use this bulletin to determine the correct anchor point locations and to install child restraint top strap anchor brackets.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

To install a child restraint top strap anchor bracket, use the following procedure:





1. Open the trunk lid and locate the top strap anchor point weld nuts on the underside of the parcel shelf panel (see Figure 2).

2. Mark the location of the weld nuts on the underside of the percal shelf.

3. Fold down the top section of the rear seat.

4. Remove the parcel shelf.

5. Cut a small slit through the parcel shelf fabric at the anchor point locations.

6. Remove the pre-cut circles in the parcel shelf.

7. Reinstall the parcel shelf.





8. Install the top strap anchor bracket using a metric bolt and washer (see Figure 3). The metric bolt must meet the following dimensions:

^ Bolt diameter = 8.0 mm
^ Bolt length = between 20 mm (approx. 13/16 in.) and 25 mm (approx. 1 in.)
^ Bolt thread pitch - 1.25 mm

9. Tighten the anchor bracket mounting bolt to 13 Nm (1.3 kg-m, 9 ft-lb).
