1998 ALTIMA DOORS LOCK & ALARM SOUNDS FOR NO APPARENT REASON

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1998 Altima (L30) equipped with power door locks

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the doors lock by themselves in an applied 1998 Altima and/or the security alarm sounds with no apparent reason, moisture may have settled into the door lock actuators.

A countermeasure door lock actuator is now available to resolve this incident.

Use the procedure in this bulletin to replace moisture-damaged door lock actuators.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Carefully remove the door trim panel (see Figure 1).

CAUTION:
Use extreme care in removing the door trim to prevent transfer of sealant to the interior of the vehicle.

2. Remove all 4 door lock actuators and discard.

3. Check the door lock actuator harness connectors for moisture or any signs of contamination and clean and dry as necessary.

4. Pack the harness connector with dielectric grease (see the Parts Information table).

5. Install the countermeasure door lock actuators (see the Parts Information table).

6. Disconnect the harness connectors of the right and left front key cylinder switches and the driver's power window main switch and inspect for moisture or debris. If necessary, clean out any moisture or contamination.

7. Pack the cylinder switch harness connectors with dielectric grease and reconnect.

8. Re-assemble the doors and test the door locks and security system for proper operation.

9. Test drive the vehicle and check for any squeaks or rattles from the door or door panels.
