MIL ON - DTC P1335 (Crankshaft Position Sensor)

Classification:
EC97-038

Reference:
NTB98-003

Date:
February 1, 1998

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1995-98 Maxima (A32)

APPLIED DATE:
Manufactured Before 8/20/97

Subject:
1995-98 MAXIMA MIL "ON" / DTC P1335 DUE TO HARNESS CONTACT WITH POWER STEERING PULLEY

SERVICE INFORMATION

If an applied 1995-98 Maxima displays MIL "On" and CONSULT indicates DTC P1335, contact between the power steering pump pulley and the ECCS sub-harness may be short circuiting the sub-harness to ground, preventing the crankshaft position sensor-REF signal from reaching the ECM.

If sub-harness damage from contact between the P/S pump pulley and the sub-harness is the cause of the incident, a countermeasure ECCS sub-harness is available (P/N 24079-31U12) to resolve the incident and prevent future harness contact with the power steering pump pulley.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Visually inspect the position of the ECCS sub-harness.

2. If contact with the power steering pump pulley exists, check for damage to the ECCS sub-harness (see Figure 1).

^ If no contact between the sub-harness and the P/S pump pulley exists, refer to the appropriate service manual (1995: pages EC-167 to EC-170; 1996: pages EC-283 to EC-286; 1997: pages EC-298 to EC-302; 1998: pages EC-336 to EC-340) to diagnose the origin of the P1335 code. Position the harness to ensure it can not contact the pump pulley in the future.

^ If damage to the sub-harness has resulted from contact at the P/S pump pulley, replace the ECCS sub-harness with the countermeasure sub-harness (see parts list).
