Fuel Pump: Service and Repair





WARNING:
BE SURE TO FURNISH WORKSHOP WITH A CO2 FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
DO NOT SMOKE WHILE SERVICING FUEL SYSTEM. KEEP OPEN FLAMES AND SPARKS AWAY FROM WORK AREA.


REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect battery ground.
2. Release fuel pressure.
3. Drain fuel into an explosion proof container.
4. Support fuel tank with jack.
5. Remove strap bolts.
6. Lower fuel tank from vehicle.
7. Unbolt fuel gauge assembly.
8. Replace fuel pump.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

- Tighten fuel gauge bolts to 2.0 - 2.5 Nm (17.4 - 22.6 inch lbs.).
- Always replace O-ring with a new one.
- After installation, run engine and check for leaks at connections.
