Service Procedure
SERVICE PROCEDURECAUTION: Be careful not to spill coolant on the drive belts.
NOTE: The temperature control lever should remain in the full hot position during the complete bleeding procedure.
1. Check for the following conditions:
A. Kinks or restrictions in the tube between the radiator and reservoir tank.
B. Plastic flashing on the reservoir tank nipple (connection for tube to radiator).
2. Pressure test the radiator cap and system.
3. Slowly fill the radiator and reservoir tank with coolant to the "MAX" mark.
4. Warm up the engine and then hold at 2000 rpm for approximately 5 minutes.
5. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool down.
Figure 1:
6. Open the air relief valve (U11, S12 V6 and D21 V6 only) as shown in Figure 1.
7. Open the radiator and reservoir tank and slowly fill with coolant until the radiator is full and the reservoir is 1/2 way between the "MAX" mark and the top of the tank.
8. Run the engine for at least 10 start-up/cool-down periods. Repeat step 6 after each cool-down period.
ALTERNATE BLEEDING PROCEDURE FOR 300ZX, MAXIMA, 200SX (V6 ONLY), TRUCK AND PATHFINDER (V6 ONLY) VEHICLES
CAUTION: Be careful not to spill coolant on the drive belts.
NOTE: The engine should be cold before beginning this procedure.
Figure 2:
Figure 2 (Continued):
1. Remove the coolant hose between the collector (A) and coolant pipe (B) (Figure 2).
Figure 3:
Figure 3 (Continued):
2. Install two hoses to each fitting and route them to the reservoir tank (Figure 3).
Figure 4:
3. The hose connected to the pipe (B) should be immersed to the bottom of the reservoir tank and the hose connected to the collector (A) should be placed just inside (not immersed) the reservoir tank.
Note: See Figure 2 for hose location by model.
4. Place the temperature control lever in the full hot position.
5. Start the engine and run at about 2000 rpm for 10 minutes. Race the engine 2 or 3 times. Make sure coolant comes out of the temporary bleed hose during this 10 minute period.
6. Check for the heater gurgle noise. If the noise still exists, repeat step 5 until the noise goes away.
7. Install the short hose and save the long hoses for other vehicles.
