^ Improperly adjusted trunk lock striker/cable.
^ Trunk release switch activates with a very short stroke.
Use the Service Procedure below to identify and repair the incident if it should occur.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Identify the incident.
Read the symptoms described below. See which best matches the customer's description of the incident and the condition/operation of the vehicle. In some cases, both may apply to one vehicle.
Description 1
The symptoms of an improperly adjusted trunk lock striker are: The incident occurs without touching the trunk switch on the door. Also, there is no sound from the trunk solenoid/actuator when the incident occurs. Cars equipped with rear spoilers may be more sensitive to this cause. With the trunk lid closed, push down on the trunk lid. If it moves down, the striker needs adjustment. Go to Procedure 1.
Description 2
The symptoms of a trunk release switch-based incident are: The incident occurs when the customer accidentally brushes the switch area, such as with an elbow or when reaching in a left rear pants pocket. There may be some wear marks on the trim near the trunk switch. If the symptoms indicate that the customer is accidentally pushing the switch, go to Procedure 2.
Procedure 1
1. Open the trunk lid and remove the finisher from the bottom of the trunk opening.
2. Loosen the bolts that secure the striker to the body (see Figure 1).
3. Adjust the striker downward to eliminate trunk lid free-play. Temporarily tighten the bolts.
4. Close the trunk lid and verify the free-play is eliminated. Ensure the trunk lid sits flush with the fender edges.
5. Open the trunk lid and torque the 10 mm striker bolts to 3.8 ft lb.
6. Check the trunk lid opener cable adjustment (see Figure 2). Adjust as needed.
7. Re-install the trunk finisher.
Procedure 2
1. Replace the trunk switch with the one shown in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.
