Rear Area, Lower

NTB99-042/BT99-023: REPAIR OF SQUEAKS AND RATTLES IN THE REAR AREA, LOWER FOR 1995-99 SENTRA/200SX

The rear area, lower includes: Door panels, glass and door mounted controls, front and rear seat assemblies, center console, carpeted areas, parcel shelf and interior mounted stop lamp.

NOTE:
Read through all of the incidents listed in this section that apply to the incident area in the vehicle. Some repairs may need to be done in combination with others.

WARNING:
If a part of the SRS (air bag) needs to be serviced, always turn the ignition switch off, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least three (3) minutes before performing the service.

INCIDENT 1:
RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT AND REAR DOORS

Verify:
The rattle noise may occur when closing the doors or when driving on pavement or rough roads.

Isolate:
This noise may occur due to contact between the door handle/lock release control rods and the inside door panel.

Repair:

1. For the front door, apply one foam pad (P/N 80845-71L00) between the door handle/lock release control rods and the inside door panel (see Figure 1).

2. For the rear door, apply two foam pads (P/N 80845-71L00) between the door handle/lock release control rods and the inside door panel (see Figure 2).

Recheck:
Test the vehicle as described above to confirm the repair is complete.

INCIDENT 2:
RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE TRUNK AREA

Verify:
The rattle noise may occur when driving on pavement or rough roads. Also, it can occur when lightly tapping on the trunk room floor.

Isolate:
This noise may occur due to contact between the spare tire wood cover, the spare tire and the trunk room floor.

Repair:

1. Apply foam pads (P/N 73982-4L700) to the spare tire cover (see Figure 3) so the cover and spare tire do not contact each other.

2. Apply foam pads (P/N 76884-71L02) to the spare tire cover (see Figure 3) to eliminate rattling between the cover and the trunk room floor.

Recheck:
Test the vehicle as described above to confirm the repair is complete.
