2000-01 ALTIMA; SUNROOF MOLDING COMES LOOSE OR IS HANGING DOWN

APPLIED VEHICLE:
All 2000-01 Altima (L30)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the sunroof molding on a 2000/2001 Altima comes loose or is hanging down, the cause may be contact between the sunroof molding and the sunroof shade. If the sunroof shade rubs on the sunroof molding as the shade is pulled forward to the closed position, the molding may come loose.

To correct this condition, if it exists, add three felt pads to the locations specified in this bulletin (just behind the rear of the sunroof molding) to prevent the sunroof shade from contacting the molding. Refer to the Service Procedure below for instructions on installing these felt pads.

NOTE:
This is the ONLY authorized repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Nissan for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the sunroof glass as follows:

A. Remove the two sunroof trim pieces by pulling out on them (see Figure 1).

B. Remove the four bolts that secure the sunroof glass to the sunroof slide assembly (see Figure 2a).

C. Carefully lift the sunroof glass up and remove it from the vehicle (see Figure 2b). Place the sunroof glass on a soft cloth (e.g., cloth fender cover) on top of your bench.

2. Remove the sunroof molding, place it on a flat surface, and evenly press down any high spots that could catch on the sunroof shade. Also, press down (around the perimeter of the molding) so the opening of the molding is reduced. This will ensure the molding tightly grips the vehicle body.

3. Re-install the sunroof molding making sure it is fully seated onto the vehicle body.

4. Install the three felt pads according to Figure 3, making sure:

^ The surfaces (where the felt pads are to be installed) are clean and free of dirt/debris.

^ The front edge of the felt pad firmly butts up to the rear edge of the sunroof molding.

^ The felt pad is fully seated in the contour (groove) of the sunroof frame assembly.

5. Re-install the sunroof glass making sure:

^ The gap between the sunroof glass and the body is uniform.

^ The top of the sunroof glass is flush with the top of the roof.

^ The sunroof opens and closes properly.

NOTE:
For additional information related to sunroof glass adjustment, refer to the "BT" section of the applicable service manual.

6. Re-install the sunroof side trim pieces.

7. Slide the sunroof shade back and forth a few times to confirm the sunroof molding stays in place.
