SERVICE INFORMATION

If the "TCS" and "Slip" indicator lights on a 2000 Maxima with Traction Control System (TCS) remain illuminated during normal driving conditions and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and LAN Abnormal Signals described in the Service Procedure are confirmed, the cause may be the ECM program.

There is an updated ECM program available to address this incident if it should occur. Use the Service Procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct this condition.

For an introduction to and description of ECM Reprogramming, please refer to NTB00-006.

NOTE:
When the ECM is reprogrammed, it is not necessary to complete the NATS (Nissan Anti-Theft System) for all ignition keys or the Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure (Set Base Engine Idle).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The service procedure involves four steps:

^ Confirm the two indicator lights are on.

^ Confirm the codes indicated in Step 2, are stored in Engine self- diagnosis.

^ Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II.

^ Install the ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.

Confirm Bulletin Related Indicator Lights Are On and Related Codes Are Stored.

1. Confirm that the "TCS" and "Slip" indicator lights are on.

2. Confirm that Engine self-diagnosis has stored DTC P1211 (ABS/TCS Control Unit) or P1212 (ABS/TCS Communication Line) and any combination of the following codes are stored in the ABS self-diagnosis memory:

LAN Abnormal Signal 1,

LAN Abnormal Signal 3,

NOTE:
If the vehicle has any other codes stored, such as ABS Wheel Sensor, this bulletin does not apply. Refer to the Service Manual diagnosis for ABS/TCS to resolve the incident.

CAUTION:
The ECM can be permanently damaged if the reprogramming procedure is not performed correctly.
