Q-Pad(TM) Installation Procedure
1. Remove two Q-Pad(TM) self-adhering panels from their packaging. Allow them to warm up and become moldable by placing them in the sun or near a heat source.2. Remove the lower seat cushion from the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Carefully store the lower seat cushion to avoid damage.
3. Remove the center and driver's side seat belt anchors and set the anchors aside.
4. Separate the seat belt buckles from the seat belts. Lay the seat belt buckles down in the lower seat cushion well, where the lower seat cushion normally rests.
CAUTION:
Wrap a clean cloth around the seat belt buckles to avoid damage or dirt (see Figure 7).
5. Remove the left and right seat side bolsters as follows:
A. Unbolt each bolster at the base.
B. Fold the seat backs forward and down into the lower seat cushion well. Let the seat backs rest on top of the seat belt buckles (see Figure 8).
C. Unfasten the rear seat belts from the guides on the top of each bolster.
D. Lift the bolsters up and out.
CAUTION:
Carefully store the side bolsters to avoid damage.
6. Remove the threshold covers and lay them on top of the seat backs (see Figure 8).
7. Remove the seat back finisher by popping out the six push clips with a flat-bladed screwdriver, wrapped in a clean cloth (see Figure 9).
CAUTION:
Use care not to lose the two metal clips that attach the finisher to the pass-through frame (see Figure 9).
8. Twist out the four parcel shelf clips using a flat-bladed screwdriver, wrapped in a clean cloth (see Figure 10).
CAUTION:
The clips have a double layered head. Take care to twist only the top layer when removing the clips. (see Figure 10).
9. Remove the child tether anchor covers by lifting up the front edge, then pull forward and out (see Figure 11).
10. Remove the sub-woofer cover (see Figure 11).
11. Remove the both C Pillar finishers by inserting the head of a small flat blade screwdriver wrapped in a clean cloth at the bottom of the pillar and separating. Then separate the top edge of the pillar finisher and remove (see Figure 12). See Figure 13 shown for a back view of the pillar finisher when removed.
12. Remove the center brake light and finisher, if equipped.
NOTE:
The SE vehicle has the center brake light mounted in the spoiler. It does not need to be removed.
13. Remove the parcel shelf as follows:
A. Pop up and undo the parcel shelf hold-down clips located behind the child seat tether bolts (see Figure 14).
B. Pull up on the rear of the parcel shelf to unhook the hook and loop fasteners that hold the rear of the parcel shelf to the underframe.
C. Pop off and slide the parcel shelf seat belt guide/finisher up the seat belt. Use a small flat-bladed screwdriver wrapped in a clean cloth (see Figure 15 for a view of this step done for the center rear seat belt).
D. Repeat Step C above for the passenger's side rear seat belt.
E. Push the back passenger's side and center seat belts through the openings in the parcel shelf.
F. Pull the parcel shelf up and out. Rest the parcel shelf against the back of the front seats.
NOTE:
Leave the driver's side back seat belt anchored in its finisher and inserted within the parcel shelf.
14. Remove the two passenger side child seat tether anchors.
Inspect Center Seat Belt Retractor Assembly. Install Resin Block(s) - if necessary
15. Inspect the center seat belt retractor assembly. Verify if two resin blocks are present, one on either side of the assembly:
^ If two resin blocks are present (see Figure 16A), there is no need for additional action in this step. Proceed to step 16, below.
^ If one resin block is present, install a second resin block on the other side of the retractor assembly (see Figure 16B). See the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin for detail.
^ If no resin blocks are present, install a resin block on both sides of the retractor assembly (see Figure 16A for an example of properly installed resin blocks). See the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin for detail.
16. Remove the square of felt insulator/jute from the trunk lock connector (see Figure 17).
17. Clean away any adhesive or felt/jute particles from the sheet metal by wiping the sheet metal with Nissan Brake Cleaner (Nissan P/N 999MP-A3042).
CAUTION:
Protect the interior of the vehicle from brake cleaner overspray. Outside the vehicle, spray the brake cleaner onto a clean shop rag, then wipe the sheet metal.
Inspect Bose(TM) Sub-woofer Mounting Bracket Assembly. Insert 5th Fastening Screw - if necessary
18. Inspect the Bose(TM) sub-woofer speaker mounting bracket assembly.
A. If it has 5th fastening screws (see Figure 18), there is no need for additional action in this step. Proceed to Step 19.
B. If it has only 4 fastening screws (see Figure 19A), modify the existing mounting bracket assembly as follows to include a 5th fastening screw in the corner:
1) From the trunk room, use a center punch and hammer to mark the underside of the bracket where the center of the 5th (new) hole will be located (see Figure 19B and Figure 20, shown).
2) Remove the bracket assembly and place it on a workbench. Drill a 5/16" hole at the point where you marked the center of the 5th hole in step 1, above (see Figure 21).
3) Reinstall the mounting bracket assembly, using a sheet metal screw for the 5th (new) hole.
19. Pre-position two Q-Pads(TM) onto the passenger side of the parcel shelf sheet metal (see Figure 22). The Q-Pad(TM) paper-backing should be touching the parcel shelf, and the black pad material should be facing up.
NOTE:
In the following steps, the pads are marked "Pad 1" and "Pad 2" to allow for clearer identification.
20. Press down on the areas of Pad 1 and Pad 2 that overlay the passenger and center seat belt housings. By pushing down on the pad material, you will make indentations/marks on the pads. This will show where the pad material must be trimmed to allow the seat belt and buckle to pass through (see Figure 23)
21. Remove Pad 1 and Pad 2 from the parcel shelf and place them on a workbench.
22. Using the tip of a flat-bladed screwdriver, cut out seat belt holes in Pads 1 and 2 which were pre-marked in Step 20 (see Figure 24).
23. Pull the backing off of Pad 1 on the corner near the passenger side rear seat belt/buckle pre-cut hole (see Figure 25).
NOTE:
Q-Pads(TM) have an adhesive backing which can leave sticky deposits on fingers when handled. If fingerprints are then left on the rear window when re-installing parts to complete this procedure, those prints may be difficult to remove. If contact is made with the Q-Pad(TM) adhesive, wash hands thoroughly before touching the rear window.
24. Pull the passenger side rear seat belt and buckle completely through the pre-cut opening in Pad 1 (see Figure 25).
CAUTION:
Make sure that the seat belt and buckle can pass through the Pad 1 material, traveling naturally and freely. Cut the hole large enough to provide full clearance for the seat belt to pull out and retract properly.
25. Pull the backing off of Pad 1 and re-position it lightly on the sheet metal shelf (see Figure 26).
CAUTION:
Make sure the Q-Pad(TM) is placed as you would like it to be permanently positioned before pressing down on the pad. Q-Pads(TM) can be peeled off and repositioned easily if they are only lightly applied to the sheet metal. However, once stronger pressure is used to press and mold the pads down (or it the heat gun is applied) pads will only peel off in sections or pieces and will not be re-usable.
26. Use a heat gun to mold down and form Pad 1 to the shelf (see Figure 26).
27. Press down on Pad 1 to find areas of padding which must be cut out to allow clearance for the trunk hinge and retractor bolt pass-through (see Figure 26).
28. Use the tip of the screwdriver to cut away and remove pad material noted in Step 27.
29. Repeat Steps 23 through 28 for Pad 2 (see Figure 27).
CAUTION:
When cutting and removing the pad material, make sure you have removed enough material to allow the child seat tether anchor bolts, spacers and washers to be fully seated on the sheet metal (see Figure 28).
NOTE:
Areas of pad material to be cut away in Figure 28 are shown "outlined" in dashed lines for identification purposes.
NOTE:
See Figure 29 for a view of Pad 1 properly molded to the sheet metal shelf and for location of all areas of pad material to be cut away. Areas of pad material to be cut away are shown "outlined" in dashed lines for identification purposes.
NOTE:
See Figure 30 for a view of Pad 2 properly molded to the sheet metal shelf and for location of all areas to be cut out. Areas of pad material to be cut away are shown outlined" in dashed lines for identification purposes.
30. Re-install the felt-insulator/jute material over the trunk lock connector. There should enough adhesive on the back of the felt/jute to allow it to re-adhere, but apply an appropriate adhesive if necessary.
31. Re-install all remaining parts in reverse order.
NOTE:
Verify that the parcel shelf board hold-down clips are completely secured in the parcel shelf. Secure any loose clips.
WARNING:
Confirm proper retraction and latching of all rear seat belts following final installation of all components.
32. Repeat Diagnostic Procedure. Use the same bass and volume levels and audio source noted.
33. Verify that the rattle/buzz and/or distortion-type noise from the sub woofer is gone. If the rattle/buzz and/or sub woofer distortion is still present, investigate other causes and repair as needed.
34. Test drive the vehicle to insure all components have been re-installed properly and no new squeak and rattle incidents have occurred.
