This bulletin amends NTB00-008 and contains updated Vehicle Identification information. Please discard all paper copies of that bulletin.

SERVICE INFORMATION
Use the repair in this bulletin if a 2000 Maxima exhibits the following symptoms: After starting the vehicle in ambient temperatures below 40° F or +5° C, the engine idle drops excessively or stops when shifting into "D" or "R" range. This incident is not A/T-related and typically occurs within the first minute after the engine is started cold. Once the engine warms, the incident no longer occurs.

There is an updated ECM program available to address this incident if it should occur. Use the Service Procedure outlined below to correct this condition.For an introduction to and description of ECM Reprogramming, please refer to NTB00-006.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The service procedure involves three steps:

^ Verify the incident.
^ Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II.
^ Install the ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.

Verify the incident.

1. Using the description in the Service Information section above, verify the incident.

2. Once the incident is verified, proceed to "Download the ECM Reprogramming data from ASIST to CONSULT-II and Install the ECM Reprogramming data into the vehicle ECM.

4. The detailed instructions for this part of the procedure can be found by clicking here or referring to Attachment "A" to the printed version of this bulletin.

a. In ASIST go into Into Tool Box, then CONSULT-II utilities, then ECM Reprogramming.





b. Using the keypad in ECM Data Reprogramming, enter the ECM ID code for the repair outlined in this bulletin (shown). This will download the new data from ASIST into CONSULT-II.

c. Select the correct ECM program to install from the CONSULT-II screen. Then download the data from CONSULT-II into the ECM.

NOTE:
You must determine whether the vehicle has Federal or California emissions.
