Flow of Diagnosis
NONE OF THE POWER WINDOWS CAN OPERATE USING ANY SWITCHSystem Description
Power windows can be raised or lowered with each sub-switch or the power window main switch located on the driver's door trim when ignition switch is in ON position.
When power window lock switch is locked, no windows can be raised or lowered except for driver's door window.
When ignition switch is in ON position, to fully open/close the driver's door window, press down/pull up completely on automatic switch (main switch) and release it; it needs not be held. The window will automatically open/close all the way. To stop the window, pull up/press down then release the switch.
Possible Cause
- Fuse
- Fusible link
- Circuit breaker
- Power window relay
- Power window main switch
- Circuit open or short
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check power supply to power window relay terminals 2 and 3: Battery voltage should exist.
a. Check fuse, fusible link and circuit breaker.
b. Check circuit between fuse and power window relay.
2. Check power supply to power window main switch: Battery voltage should exist.
a. Check circuit between circuit breaker and power window main switch.
3. Check power window relay: Use usual methods for relay testing.
4. Check power window relay ground circuit: Continuity.
5. Check power window main switch ground circuit: Continuity.
6. Check power window main switch.

Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check circuit between power window main switch and driver's power window regulator.
2. Check driver's power window regulator.
3. Check power window main switch.
ONE OR MORE PASSENGER POWER WINDOWS CANNOT OPERATE
System Description
Power windows can be raised or lowered with each sub-switch or the power window main switch located on the driver's door trim when ignition switch is in ON position.
When power window lock switch is locked, no windows can be raised or lowered except for driver's door window.
Possible Cause
- Power window sub-switch
- Power window regulator
- Power window main switch
- Circuit open or short
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check power window sub-switch.
2. Check power window regulator.
3. Check power window main switch.
4. Check circuit between power window sub-switch and power window relay.
5. Check circuit between power window sub-switch and power main switch.
6. Check circuit between power window sub-switch and power window regulator.
PASSENGER POWER WINDOWS CANNOT OPERATE USING POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH BUT CAN OPERATE BY POWER WINDOW SUB-SWITCH
System Description
Power windows can be raised or lowered with each sub-switch or the power window main switch located on the driver's door trim when ignition switch is in ON position.
When power window lock switch is locked, no windows can be raised or lowered except for driver's door window.
Possible Cause
- Power window main switch
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check power window main switch.
DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW AUTOMATIC OPERATION DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY
System Description
Power windows can be raised or lowered with each sub-switch or the power window main switch located on the driver's door trim when ignition switch is in ON position.
When power window lock switch is locked, no windows can be raised or lowered except for driver's door window.
When ignition switch is in ON position, to fully open/close the driver's door window, press down/pull up completely on automatic switch (main switch) and release it; it needs not be held. The window will automatically open/close all the way. To stop the window, pull up/press down then release the switch.
When ignition switch is turned to OFF position from ON or START position, power window can be raised or lowered for 45 seconds. This operation (retained power operation) is canceled when front door is opened. Power window main switch monitors power window regulator motor operation and power window position (full closed or other) for driver's power window by the signals from encoder and limit switch in driver's power window regulator.
When power window main switch detects interruption during the following close operation in driver's door,
- automatic close operation when ignition switch is in ON position
- automatic close operation during retained power operation
- manual close operation during retained power operation
power window main switch controls driver's power window regulator motor for open and power window will be lowered about 150 mm (5.91 in).
Possible Cause
- Door window slide mechanism
- Limit switch
- Encoder
- Power window main switch
- Circuit open or short
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check power window main switch.
2. Check obstacles in window, glass molding, etc.
3. Check worn or deformed glass molding.
4. Check door sash to see if is tilted too far inward or outward.
5. Check power supply to limit switch.
Check voltage between power window main switch terminal 9 and ground. See illustration.
a. Replace power window main switch.
6. Check limit switch operation:
Check voltage between power window main switch terminal 9 and ground during power window closing operation. See illustration.
a. Reset limit switch. Then check voltage between power window main switch terminal 9 and ground during power window closing operation at least ten times.
7. Check encoder:
Measure voltage between power window main switch terminal 16 and ground with oscilloscope when power window is in automatic closing operation.
8. Replace power window main switch.
RETAINED POWER OPERATION DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY
System Description
Power windows can be raised or lowered with each sub-switch or the power window main switch located on the driver's door trim when ignition switch is in ON position.
When power window lock switch is locked, no windows can be raised or lowered except for driver's door window.
When ignition switch is in ON position, to fully open/close the driver's door window, press down/pull up completely on automatic switch (main switch) and release it; it needs not be held. When ignition switch is turned to OFF position from ON or START position, power window can be raised or lowered for 45 seconds. This operation (retained power operation) is canceled when front door is opened.
Possible Cause
- Front door switch
- Circuit open or short
- Smart entrance control unit
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for confirmed incidents)
1. Check RAP signal circuit: Perform CONSULT-II ACTIVE TEST in RETAINED PWR, then turn ignition switch OFF, confirm that power window operates when RETAINED PWR is ON. Confirm that power window does not operate when RETAINED PWR is OFF.
2. Check circuit between smart entrance control unit and front door switches.
3. Check ground circuit for front door switches.
4. Check front door switches.
5. Check smart entrance control unit input/output signals.
