Torsion Bar/Torsion Bar Spacer Block Securing Procedure

CAUTION:
With the trunk lid closed, access the torsion bars and torsion bar spacer block from the passenger compartment trunk pass-through to complete the following steps. There is less tension on the torsion bars when the trunk is closed. It is easier to remove and re-install the torsion bar spacer block without damaging it when the trunk lid is closed.

1. Mark the location of the torsion bar spacer block on the torsion bars before removing it (see Figure 1).

2. Disengage both torsion bars from the spacer block (see Figure 1).

CAUTION:
Take care not to break off the two tabs on the front of the spacer block (see Figure 2).

3. Twist and remove the spacer block from the hole into which it is inserted (see Figure 2).

4. Get the following items from your Infiniti/Nissan Squeak And Rattle Repair Kit (Tech-Mate tool number J-43980):

A. One adhesive backed urethane pad, 35 mm x 50 mm x 1.5 mm (P/N 76884-71L02)

B. One roll, non-woven cloth felt tape, 5 mm wide roll (P/N 68239-13E00).

5. Cut the adhesive backed urethane pad (P/N 76884-71L02) into two equal sized pads (25 mm x 35 mm x 1.5 mm) - see Figure 3.

6. Remove the backing from the pads cut in Step 5.

7. Wrap the pads lengthwise around the torsion bars. Ensure there is no overlap (see Figure 4).

NOTE:
Wrap the pads around the torsion bars between the location marks you made in Step 1.

8. Cut four strips of non-woven cloth felt tape (P/N 68239-13E00) to fit the top of the spacer block (see Figure 5).

9. Attach the four strips of non-woven cloth felt tape to the top of the spacer block (see Figure 5).

10. Insert the spacer block back into the hole. Twist it to face toward the torsion bars and lock it into place (see Figure 6).

11. Snap the torsion bars back into place on the spacer block (see Figure 6).

CAUTION:
Take care not to break off the two tabs on the front of the spacer block when re-inserting the torsion bars.
