ASSIST A/B MODULE [VB-SHORT]
System Description(OPEN) The front passenger's air bag module circuit is open.
(SHORT) The front passenger's air bag module circuits are shorted to each other.
(VB-SHORT) The front passenger's air bag module circuit is shorted to some power supply.
(GND-SHORT) The front passenger's air bag module circuit is shorted to ground.
CAUTION: Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in the service procedures. Spiral cable and wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow harness connector (and with yellow harness protector or yellow insulation tape before the harness connectors). Do not attempt to repair, splice or modify the SRS wiring harness. If the harness is damaged, replace it with a new one. Always mount the diagnosis sensor unit with the forward mark to the front. Replace previously used special bolts and ground bolt with new ones. Keep ground connections clean.
Possible Cause
- Front Passenger Air Bag Module
- Diagnosis Sensor Unit
- Air Bag Harness
DTC Confirmation Procedure
SELF DIAGNOSIS
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for CURRENT incidents)
CAUTION: Before servicing the SRS system turn the ignition key OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes.
NOTE:
- Perform the following repair procedures in numerical order. After each item is completed perform DTC confirmation procedure to confirm whether the malfunction has been eliminated. If the malfunction is still present proceed to the next item. When the malfunction is eliminated further repair is not needed.
- Erase to clear the memory of the malfunction after repairing the system.Otherwise the diagnostic results remain in the memory in "SELF-DIAG [PAST]".Then the User mode shows the system malfunction even if "SELF-DIAG [CURRENT]" shows "NO DTC IS DETECTED".
1. Visually check the wiring harness connections. Replace if it has visible damage.
2. Replace front passenger air bag module. (Note) Before disposal of it, it must be deployed.
3. Replace the diagnosis sensor unit.
4. Replace the related harness.
Diagnostic Repair Procedure (for SELF-DIAG [PAST] or TROUBLE RECORD incidents)
CAUTION: Before servicing the SRS system turn the ignition key OFF, disconnect both battery' cables and wait at least 3 minutes.
NOTE:
- Self-diagnostic result "SELF-DIAG [PAST]" (previously stored in the memory) might not be erased after repair.

1. Visually check the wiring harness connection.
2. Replace air bag harness if it has visible damage.
3. If the harness is OK, replace front passenger air bag module and diagnosis sensor unit.
