SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 2000 Maxima exhibits poor engine performance at low engine speeds, the cause may be a kinked or twisted vent hose from the Variable Induction Air Control System (VIAS) control solenoid valve. This solenoid is controlled by the ECM. When turned off during high speed engine operation (above approximately 5,000 RPM) it applies vacuum to the Power Valve Actuator. If the vent hose from the control solenoid is blocked, vacuum stays applied to the Power Valve Actuator after the control solenoid turns "on". This can decrease engine low speed performance.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Figure 1:
1. Refer to Figure 1 to locate the VIAS control solenoid valve vent hose on the vehicle. It is the general size of vacuum hose. It is located beneath the valve cover breather hose, between the air cleaner housing and a vacuum hose tee fitting.
2. If the hose is twisted, remove one end, untwist the hose, and reconnect it.
3. Confirm proper operation of the Power Valve Actuator by performing steps 4 through 7.
4. Start the engine and warm it to operating temperature.
5. Locate the Power Valve Actuator to Power Valve linkage, under the Power Valve Actuator body, at the end of the intake manifold (see Figure 1, above).
6. Momentarily rev the engine to above 5,000 RPM and visually confirm that the Power Valve Actuator is operating.
7. As the engine speed returns to idle, the Power Valve Actuator should instantly return to the closed position.
8. If it does not, recheck the hose. If the hose is OK, check the VIAS control solenoid valve
