SERVICE INFORMATION
If the trunk room side finisher on an Applied Vehicle has popped out of place as shown in Figure 1, it may be due to impact from shifting cargo in the trunk.
If this condition should occur, use the Service Procedure below to install foam blocks for additional support behind the finisher.
NOTE:
New 2000-2001 Maximas have foam block Bumper Protectors installed when they are delivered to the dealer. These foam blocks are usually discarded when the vehicle is delivered to the customer, but are now to be used for this Service Procedure. For more information about these foam blocks refer to Nissan Technical Bulletin NTB00-073.
CAUTION:
Do NOT remove these foam blocks from a new car before the time specified in NTB00-073.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
This is the ONLY approved repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Nissan for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.
1. Remove the trunk room rear plate (Refer to the BT section of the appropriate Service Manual).
2. Remove clips that fasten the rear of trunk room side finisher to the trunk (Refer to the BT section of the appropriate Service Manual).
3. Remove trunk weather strip in the area adjacent to the taillight.
4. Pull the finisher forward to expose the taillight mounting area.
5. Take two foam blocks (see NOTE in SERVICE INFORMATION) and fasten them together using double-sided tape (see Figure 2).
6. Take the foam block assembly you just made in step 5 and apply double-sided tape as shown in Figure 3.
7. Take the foam block assembly and attach it to the body as shown in Figure 4. This will provide additional support for the trunk room side finisher.
8. Reinstall the trunk room side finisher & fastening clips.
9. Reinstall trunk weather strip in the area adjacent to the taillight.
10. Repeat on opposite side if necessary.
11. Reinstall the trunk room rear plate.
