2000-2001 MAXIMA; WINDOW REGULATOR POP/TICK NOISE

SERVICE INFORMATION

If a door window in an applied vehicle has the following symptom:

^ A "pop" or "tick" noise is heard when the window is partially open and driving on rough roads at speed above 25 mph.

It may be caused by inadequate lubrication of the window regulator, between the carrier plate and the metal track.





Follow the Service Procedure below to eliminate the "pop" or "tick" noise, if this incident should occur.


SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Test-drive the vehicle on a rough road, above 25 mph with the window partially open 2-3".

2. If the "pop" or "tick" noise is heard, remove the door finisher to access the window regulator. Refer to Service Manual on removal of door finisher.

3. With a brush, apply about 2-3 g of Dow Corning Molykote SK grease (P/N 5K623) or equivalent molybdenum grease to the window regulator (6" below mounting screws to top of regulator rail). See Figure 1.

NOTE: Do not use too much grease for it may get on the window.





4. Re-install door finisher. Refer to Service Manual on installation of door finisher.

5. Open and close window several times to check for grease stain on window. Clean window if necessary.

6. Test-drive vehicle again to ensure the "pop" or "tick" noise has been eliminated.

Please reference the current Nissan "Warranty Flat Rate Manual", Section "UX - Squeak & Rattle Repairs". Following the instructions therein, submit a Primary Operation (P0) line claim using one, or any combination, of the following Op Codes: "UX1799", "UX1899", "UX1999" and/or "UX2099". Utilize Symptom Code "ZL" and Diagnosis Code "21", plus the actual Straight Time required to lubricate the noisy regulator track(s). Note that all the Op Codes indicated above may be included on the same P0 line claim, although only one may be used as the "Primary Op". Do NOT claim the grease, as this is considered as a "Shop Supply" and will service many vehicles.
