SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied 2000 or 2001 Sentra experiences cranking voltage below 8 volts, the A/T Control Unit may enter fail-sate mode. The customer may indicate the vehicle lacks power and that the transmission remains in third gear at all times. If this incident occurs, the MIL will not illuminate and the following trouble codes will be stored in Self-Diagnosis Memory in CONSULT A/T:
^ VHCL SPEED SEN-A/T (Vehicle Speed Sensor Automatic Transmission [Revolution Sensor)) and
^ VHCL SPEED SEN-MTR (Vehicle Speed Sensor-Meter)
Should the incident occur, perform the following service procedure. Check for the stored trouble codes, test the engine charging system/battery, and repair the charging system/battery. Then install the replacement Revolution Sensor Assembly listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform Self-Diagnosis using CONSULT-II to check for VHCL SPEED SEN-A/T and VHCL SPEED SEN-MTR trouble codes stored.
2. Use Nissan Battery/Starting/Charging System Tester (Kent-Moore tool # J-44373, Model 620) to check the vehicle's battery and charging system for proper battery voltage.
