Service Procedure

Determine Wheel Type

Determine the type of wheels the vehicle is currently equipped with.

A. If the vehicle is equipped with alloy or non-factory steel wheels, the vehicle is NOT part of this campaign. Refer to the Claims Information section of this bulletin.

B. If the vehicle is equipped with the factory steel road wheels, proceed with the "Steel Road Wheel Replacement Procedure" below.

Steel Road Wheel Replacement Procedure

Replace all four steel wheels as follows:

CAUTION:
The wheel covers are held on by the wheel nuts.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

2. Remove all four wheel/tire assemblies.

3. Remove the wheel cover from each wheel.

4. Use appropriate equipment to:

^ Install a new valve stem in each new specified steel wheel

^ Install the existing tires on the new specified steel wheels

^ Balance each tire/wheel assembly

5. Re-install the wheel cover on each tire/wheel assembly.

6. Install the tire/wheel assemblies on the vehicle. Tighten the wheel nuts in a cross pattern to 98-117 N-m (10-12 kg-m 73 - 86 ft-lbs).

Old Steel Road Wheel Destruction Procedure

CAUTION:
Use suitable eye protection when performing the following procedure.

Render the old steel wheels useless as follows:

1. On the front side of the wheel, split wide open one side the valve stem hole with a cold chisel and hammer (see Figure 1a).

2. On the back side of the wheel, split wide open the other side the valve stem hole with a cold chisel and hammer (see Figure 1b).

3. On the back side of the wheel, apply a bright-colored paint around the valve stem hole for identification purposes (see Figure 2a).

4. On the front side of the wheel, apply a bright-colored paint around the valve stem hole for identification purposes (see Figure 2b).

Identification of Nissan Steel Road Wheels

Nissan steel road wheels can be identified by looking at the manufacturing date codes that are stamped in the front side of the wheel (see Figure 3). Steel road wheels produced on or after June 19, 2001 (19F01) are not affected by this campaign.

NOTES:

^ The year of manufacture is located on one tab as shown on the right side of Figure 3.

^ The month and day of manufacture are located on the other tab as shown on the left side of Figure 3. The meaning of the letters is as follows: A January, B February, C = March, D = April, E = May, F = June, etc.

^ If date code numbers (as shown in Figure 3) are NOT present on the steel road wheel, the wheel is NOT affected by this campaign.
