SERVICE INFORMATION

If an applied vehicle exhibits:

^ Inoperative Air conditioning

^ Warm air from A/C vents (with A/C turned "ON")

The cause may be the A/C compressor clutch. If the compressor clutch is inoperative, replace the clutch ONLY. Refer to the Service Procedure to resolve this incident, should it occur.

NOTE:
This is the ONLY authorized repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Nissan for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

A/C Clutch Diagnosis

A. Check Power Supply to Compressor Clutch as follows:

1. Make sure the ignition switch is in the "OFF" position.

2. Disconnect the vehicle wire harness connector (F3) from the compressor clutch wire connector (see Figure 1).

3. Connect a volt meter to the vehicle wire harness connector (F3) and vehicle ground.

4. Position the F3 connector and volt meter wire leads away from any moving parts as the next step requires the engine to be started.

WARNING:
KEEP HANDS, WIRE LEADS, ETC. AWAY FROM MOVING ENGINE PARTS WHEN PERFORMING STEP 5 BELOW.

5. Start the engine.

6. Turn "ON" the A/C system.

7. Check the voltage reading of the vehicle wire harness connector (F3). See Figure 2.

A. If there is sufficient voltage (battery voltage), proceed to the "Check Continuity of Compressor Clutch" procedure.

B. If there is no voltage, look for other causes of the incident.

B. Check Continuity of Compressor Clutch as follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.

2. Using an Ohmmeter, check the "continuity" of the clutch circuit on the compressor assembly (see Figure 3).

NOTE:
The clutch circuit is good if there is continuity (connection) between the clutch wire connector pin and ground.

Repair Procedure

^ If the compressor's clutch circuit is open (no connection to ground), replace the compressor clutch ONLY. Refer to the "Air Conditioner" section of the applicable Service Manual for the compressor clutch removal and installation procedure.

NOTES:

A. Replacing the compressor clutch requires the use of Special Service Tool J-38873 (or equivalent). See the above referenced Service Manual section for further details.

B. When replacing the compressor clutch, always perform the "Break-in Operation". This is done by engaging and disengaging the clutch about 30 times.

^ If the compressor's clutch circuit is okay (connection to ground), look for other causes of the incident. Refer to the HA section of the applicable Service Manual.
