Body - Sunroof Wind Noise/Water Leaks

2002 ALTIMA; WIND NOISE AND WATER LEAK FROM SUNROOF

This bulletin amends NTB01-075. Please discard all paper copies of the earlier bulletin.

SERVICE INFORMATION

If an applied 2002 Altima exhibits one or both of the following symptoms from the sunroof area:

^ Excessive wind noise.

^ Water leaks.

A new sunroof glass is available to resolve these incidents.

For vehicles equipped with an accessory sunroof wind deflector, check the mounting brackets to make sure they are properly installed, and are not causing wind noise.

Follow the Service Procedure in this bulletin to repair the incident(s) if they should occur.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the sunroof glass.





a. Pull and remove the sunroof finishers on both sides of the sunroof (see Figure 1).





b. Remove all six bolts (three on each side) that fasten the sunroof glass (see figure 2).

c. Lift and remove the sunroof glass from the vehicle.

2. Install the new sunroof glass (listed in the Parts Information of this bulletin).

a. Loosely install the 6 bolts that fasten the sunroof glass.

^ Hand tighten the bolts just enough so the sunroof glass can be adjusted up or down.





b. Adjust the sunroof glass relative to the roof panel (see Figure 3).

^ Front--1.0 mm below the top of the roof panel.

^ Rear--flush with roof panel

c. Tighten the six bolts that fasten the sunroof glass.
(Torque spec. 26-43 in-lbs.)





3. Re-install the RH and LH finishers (see Figure 4).

NOTE:

^ If the vehicle is equipped with an accessory wind deflector, go to step 4.

^ If the vehicle is NOT equipped with an accessory wind deflector, go to step 5.








4. Check the installation of the accessory wind deflector mounting brackets (see figures 5 and 6).

a. Make sure the mounting brackets are straight up and down. They should not be tilting in any direction.

b. Brackets should be flush with the roof panel opening (see figure 6).

c. If the mounting brackets are tilting, adjust them as necessary.

5. Open and close the sunroof several times to ensure it operates normally.

6. Confirm the wind noise or water leak incident(s) have been resolved.
