SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 2002 Altima/Sentra has:
^ Low engine power
^ Poor engine running
AND/OR
^ One or more of front 02 sensor DTC P0031/P0132/P0133/P0134/P1144 stored
^ One or more of transmission DTC P0731/P0732/P0733/P0734 stored,*
refer to the Service Procedure below to resolve this incident, if it should occur.
* The transmission DTCs can be the result of low power/poor running engine conditions.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Inspect the top, front exhaust manifold heat shield:
A. If the heat shield looks like the one in Figure 1a, replace the heat shield with the new one listed in the Parts Information table.
NOTE:
The new heat shield shown in Figure 1b is an important part of the repair to prolong the life of the replacement oxygen sensor.
B. If the heat shield looks like the one in Figure 1b, the heat shield does NOT need to be replaced. Proceed to step 2 (below).
2. Replace the front oxygen sensor with the one listed in the Parts information table.
3. Use CONSULT-II to Erase DTC P0031, P0132, P0133, P0134, P1144, P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734 from the vehicle's ECM (if these codes are stored).
