2002 ALTIMA WHEEL COVER SQUEAK/CLICK NOISE
APPLIED VEHICLES:
2002 Altima (L31)
SERVICE INFORMATION
If the wheel cover(s) of a 2002 Altima makes a squeak or click noise once per wheel revolution, the cause may be;
^ Contact between the clip portion of the factory wheel weight and the outer edge of the cover.
NOTES:
^ "Witness" (contact or scrape) marks may be present on the wheel weight clips (See Figure 1) and inside edge of the wheel covers of affected vehicles. Replacing the wheel covers will not resolve this issue.
Use the Service Procedure provided in this bulletin to repair this incident, if it should occur.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the affected wheel cover(s).
2. Clean the entire surface of the wheel weight (and its clip) with Genuine Nissan Brake Cleaner. Allow the weight and clip to dry completely.
3. Attach a strip of Felt Cloth Tape to the factory wheel weight (as shown in Figure 2).
4. Wrap the ends of the tape around the outer edge of the clip (see Figure 2).
NOTES:
^ If the wheel cover is removed in future, the condition of the tape should be checked and it should be replaced, if necessary.
^ If the wheel is re-balanced, new tape must be applied.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for all affected wheels.
6. Re-install all wheel covers.
7. Test drive the vehicle to verify squeaking/clicking is no longer present.
