SERVICE INFORMATION

If a howl or groan noise is heard as the clutch pedal is "released" (as the vehicle starts moving),

^ A new clutch disc with updated friction material is available to repair the noise.

This incident, if it should occur, can be duplicated by gradually releasing the clutch while accelerating with a light throttle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm the incident.

2. Replace only the clutch disc (see Parts Information). No other parts should be needed for this repair.

^ See the appropriate Service Manual for clutch disc replacement procedures.

NOTES:
^ DO NOT replace the flywheel or the pressure plate for this incident.

^ It is normal for the flywheel and pressure plate friction surfaces to have some "metal bluing." It is not necessary to replace the flywheel or pressure plate when there is some bluing present.

^ If for any reason the flywheel is removed, make sure to reinstall it correctly. The crankshaft side dowel pin must be aligned with the flywheel side dowel pin hole (see figure 1).

^ If the flywheel is installed wrong the engine may have a hard/no start or poor running condition and a DTC may be stored.
