INTRODUCTION

Nissan has determined that some 2002 model year Nissan Sentra SE-R vehicles may have a detect which relates to motor vehicle safety. For vehicles equipped with Nissan approved accessory floor mats, if the driver side floor mat moves out of position, it may interfere with the accelerator pedal and not allow the pedal to release after it is pushed down. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number B0105 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED

The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 9,700.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

It is the retailer's responsibility to check Service Comm for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer's inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Use Service Comm to confirm the vehicle is part of this campaign.

2. Verify the front floor mat type.

NOTE:
The rear floor mats are NOT included in this campaign.

A. If the front floor mats have an "SE-R" or "Sentra" insignia on them (see Figure 1), proceed with step 3.

B. If the front floor mats do not have an "SE-R" or "Sentra" insignia on them, this campaign does not apply. Submit a claim for the inspection and return the car to the customer.

3. Remove both front floor mats and render them useless (i.e., destroy them) as follows:

A. Apply, in an "X" pattern, a bright-colored spray paint to the face of each floor mat (see Figure 2a), then

B. Cut each floor mat in half (see Figure 2b).

NOTE:
The old front floor mats can be discarded once the warranty hold period has expired.
