CUP HOLDER LID DOES NOT OPEN PROPERLY

IF YOU CONFIRM:
An applied vehicle has a Cup Holder Lid:
^ That does not open properly
AND
^ One or more of the Guide Pins are broken/damaged (see Figure 1)
ACTION:
Replace the Cup Holder Lid.
^ Refer to the Parts Information table for the correct Cup Holder Lid P/N. See the Service Procedure for Lid replacement details.

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding shown.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Use appropriate covers to protect upholstery, carpet, etc. during this procedure.
Parts Removal
1. Remove the Shifter Console Finisher as follows:
a. Using a plastic pry tool, carefully lift UP on the outer edges of the finisher to release the securing clips (see Figure 2a).
b. Carefully lift and remove the finisher and place it in a clean, safe location (see Figure 2b).
2. Remove the Cup Holder Assembly as follows:
a. Remove the Screw Cover and Screw from the bottom of the Cup Holder Assembly (see Figure 3).
NOTE:
The 2004 MY Altima's have a rubber insert in the Cup Holder Assembly that must be removed before removing the Screw Cover and Screw.
b. Grab hold of the front and rear of the Cup Holder Assembly and carefully pull straight UP to release the securing clips (see Figure 4)
c. Disconnect any wire harnesses from Cup Holder Assembly.
Cup Holder Lid Replacement
3. Separate the Cup Holder Base from the Top Finisher as follows:
a. Place the Cup Holder Assembly upside down on a clean, soft work surface.
NOTE:
Be careful NOT to damage/scratch the face of the Cup Holder Assembly.
b. Remove four screws that secure the Base to the Top Finisher (see Figure 5).
c. Lift the base UP off the finisher.
4. Install the new Cup Holder Lid as follows:
a. Firmly hold the Cup Holder Base in one hand (see Figure 6).
b. Pull BACK on the Lid until the Guide Pins (on the end of the Lid) clear the holes in the Base (see Figure 6).
c. Lift the Lid UP and OUT of the Base (see Figure 6).
d. Install the new Lid in the reverse order, making sure the springs (on the ends of the Cup Holder Base) are correctly positioned (see Figure 6).
Re-Assembly
5. Re-install the Cup Holder Base to the Top Finisher with the four screws.
6. Re-install the Cup Holder Assembly with the one screw/screw cover, making sure you re-connect any wire harnesses (to the Cup Holder Assembly).
7. Re-install the Shifter Console Finisher.
Check Lid Operation
8. Check the lid to make sure it correctly operates and the incident is resolved.
