SERVICE PROCEDURE
Replace the M/T Console Boot as follows:
1. Unscrew and remove the M/T Shift Knob.
NOTE:
The Shift Knob may become damaged (break) when you try to remove it. Install a new Shift Knob if this happens.
2. Remove the old M/T Console Boot assembly. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for removal.
3. Install the new M/T Console Boot assembly in the reverse order it was removed.
NOTE:
Before you install the new M/T Console Boot assembly:
^ Clean the Flange Bracket (on the shifter) to remove dirt/debris/residue.
^ Apply (wrap) four layers of vinyl (electrical) tape around the Flange Bracket (see Figure 1). This will help prevent contact/rubbing between the Flange Bracket and the Console Boot.
4. Apply a few drops of High Temp High Strength Threadlocker Red* to the shift lever threads.
* Use Nissan P/N 999MP-AM004P. Details are covered in the PARTS INFORMATION section.
5. Reinstall (or replace if needed) the Shift Knob.
^ Make sure the gear shift numbers and the knob are in the proper position (NOT slanted).
