HARNESS SERVICE AFTER DEPLOYMENT
APPLIED VEHICLES:
2003 Altima (L31)
SERVICE INFORMATION:
When replacing the front passenger-side air bag module:
^ The factory-installed air bag module has a different connector style than the service replacement part.
^ Also, heat from a front passenger air bag deployment may have caused damage to the factory-installed harness connector(s).
For replacement of the air bag module, a second "adapter connector" has been provided.
^ This connector is taped to the main harness in the vehicle (see Figure 1).
^ It is located behind the passenger air bag module.
^ Part of the replacement process also includes "servicing" the vehicle main harness.
Harness Service Overview:
^ Untape the new yellow "adapter connector" from the vehicle main harness.
^ At the vehicle main harness: Use wire cutters to remove both previously-used factory air bag module connectors.
^ Trim back, fold, and cover the remaining old wires with heat shrink tubing.
^ Use electrical tape to attach the old wires to the main harness.
IMPORTANT:
The purpose of this Technical Service Bulletin is to provide information and give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing on the harness. You must closely follow the entire service procedure in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) to successfully complete the entire repair. Refer to the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) section of the Service Manual: Front Passenger Air Bag Module Removal and Installation.
