The shell on an outside mirror needs to be removed and/or replaced for any reason,
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure in this bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Remove Outside Mirror Shell
1. On the bottom side of the mirror locate the drain hole shown in Figure 1.
2. Insert a small flat blade screwdriver (pocket screwdriver) in the hole.
3. Carefully pry the shell away from the mirror until it snaps loose.
4. Then, using your hands, pull the shell away from the mirror to completely remove it.
^ Be careful, don't use excess force.
5. Inspect the mirror in the areas where the shell fits. If there is damage, replace as necessary.
Install Outside Mirror Shell
6. If you are reinstalling the same shell, inspect the fit areas and the snap points. If there is damage, replace as necessary.
7. First hook the inside end of the shell on the mirror as shown in Figure 4.
8. Then press the shell into place.
^ Tuck the rim of the shell under/behind the rim of the mirror (See Figure 6).
^ Continue tucking in the shell until the two rims are flush all the way around the mirror.
9. Gently tap the back of the shell with the heel of your hand to make sure the shell is completely snapped into place.
10. Gently tap the bottom of the shell with your hand or shake the mirror and listen for the rattle of any tabs that may have broken off during the shell installation.
