APPLIED VEHICLES:
2002 - 2004 Altima (L31) with Manual (non-A/C) A/C ONLY

IF YOU CONFIRM

The Manual A/C system temperature control will not operate.

ACTIONS

Remove and inspect the NC control.

^ If the temperature control cable and/or the A/C control attachment point for the cable are damaged, replace both.

^ If the above are not damaged, and only the temperature control lever is damaged, replace only the temperature control lever.

The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing the repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Temperature Control Cable and A/C Control Inspection

1. Remove the A/C control per the 2002 Altima ESM, section MTC.





2. Inspect the temperature control cable. If there is any damage such as kinks, stress areas, etc. go to Temperature Control Cable and A/C Control Replacement.





3. Inspect the A/C control. If there is any damage to cable attaching retainer, go to Temperature Control Cable and A/C Control Replacement.

NOTE:
If there is NO damage to either the cable or A/C control, and ONLY the temperature control lever is damaged, go to Temperature Control Lever Replacement.

Temperature Control Lever Replacement





1. Move the temperature control knob to the center position.





2. Remove the damaged temperature lever (be careful not to damage the cable).

Insert a flat head screw driver in the position shown to carefully pry off the lever.





3. Note the position of the "key" on the gear and temperature lever.





4. Attach the cable to the new temperature control lever.





5. Install the temperature control lever to the A/C control. Be sure to match the "key" positions (see Figure 5).

6. Confirm installation by turning the temperature control knob. The knob should be easy to turn.

7. Install the A/C control per the ESM, section MTC.

Temperature Control Cable and A/C Control Replacement





1. Attach the new temperature control cable and new A/C control.

NOTE:
The cable may only be installed to the A/C control ONE (1) time. Removing the cable from the NC control will damage the cable and the A/C control feature.

2. Install the A/C control per the ESM, section MTC.
